The alps do get a lot colder than the UK hence the great snow and long season. This has an impact on your vehicle so here are some recommendations:Diesel - can freeze particularly overnight when temperatures drop regularly to below – 15 degrees centigrade. Therefore when you get to the alps make sure that you put some winter diesel in your fuel tank. Note supermarket diesel whilst cheaper is not winter diesel and will freeze. The local service staions will sell winter diesel (Gazole Hiver)Screenwash – again most screen wash in the UK is good down to -10 degrees centigrade be prepared for –20 degrees. Top up with some stronger stuff on the way across France.
I just wanted to express a massive thank you to Bob for last week, I was on the intermediate course which ended up being himself, me and my dad (Graham).
I had such a fantastic week and it really was all thanks to him, my skiing has come on so much and everyone I was with on the trip was so pleased for me to have had great instruction and help in both skill and confidence to my skiing.
The week was a bit hit and miss with weather which luckily allowed us to experience all types of snow conditions, I learnt technique as well as being able to just enjoy the surroundings, ending with a very enjoyable last lesson exploring out into Linderes and Avoriaz.
One thing I took from him was something I won’t ever forget, “you can learn as much as you like but 90% of skiing is enjoying yourself”.
Please pass on this message, Thanks Bob- I really do hope to ski with you again one day!
