BASS Chatel Ski and Snowboard School -New Initiative for year round Instructor Training Programmes

A new initiative to provide a cohesive and comprehensive year round training pathway for Instructors who want to gain BASI level 3 and Level 4 qualifications.

At the Autumn BASI Trainers conference Andrew Lockerbie Chairman of BASI stated that there was a massive shortfall within the European marketplace for Level 3 and Level 4 BASI Instructors. Andrew reported that both Gilles Chabert president of the ESF and Swiss Snowsports are both looking for hundreds of highly qualified BASI Instructors to work in Snowsport schools both in France and Switzerland.

In response to this BASS Chatel and Rookie Academy (based at Treble Cone in New Zealand) are collaborating on a new initiative to provide a cohesive and comprehensive year round training pathway for Instructors who want to gain BASI level 3 and Level 4 qualifications.

Rookie Academy are running an 8 week training programme which will include BASI Level 3 Technical and Teaching Modules during July and August 2010, with Dan Burton (Snowboard) and Peter Kuwall (Alpine) of BASS Chatel leading the training programme.

Treble Cone ski area represents the most complete ski area for BASI level training and exams. The incredibly varied terrain, consistent snow conditions, and sheltered aspect are in my opinion second to none for this purpose, apart from perhaps Chatel in France where the Plein Dranse area is very similar in character. Rookie Academy have been operating at Treble Cone for over 10 years and have a great relationship with the resort which provides a great operating environment and includes a good relationship with the Race Department which allows access to Gate training.

BASS Chatel will be running ongoing training programmes aimed at preparing people for BASI Level 3 and 4 exams including the Eurotest and Test Technique during December 2010, January and March of 2011 in Chatel and a training camp at Saas Fee in November 2010, BASS Chatel are combining this training programme with work placements for BASI level 2 and level 3 Instructors with local ski schools in Switzerland for December, February and April high season periods and with the ESF in France for those who pass the Test Technique.

The programmes will focus on the process of developing the skills necessary for both skiing and teaching to BASI Level 3 and Level 4 standards Gates training, Fitness development, and Psychological skills for performance.
