Team development is a big part of BASS
Continued professional development is ingrained in the mentality of British Alpine. Team days have always been a big part of every winter season for individuals dedicated to being the best they can be. Here is a brief look at how we are continually striving to learn and pass new knowledge on to all of our students and each other.
Continued Professional Development.
Everyone at British Alpine has the highest qualification with BASI (British Association of Snowsports Instructors) and French equivalence as well as qualifications with other countries and associations. We all agree that Snowsports are fluid disciplines with adjustments in techniques to keep up with constantly changing technology, new ideas and new trends. To keep us up to date, each year we attend at least 1 CPD with BASI or other external training. BASS team days and collaboration on events give us a chance to share new information and ideas with our colleagues.
Team Training
Just by facilitating time spent together as a team always adds something to our understanding with a chance to network ideas and using other experts as a sounding board for our own ideas. More specific training days give us a chance to hone and practice our teaching and technical skills. We often work in groups together to keep the level of our performance as high as it needs to be. What better than to have several BASS Coaches analysing your performance, videoing you and sharing feedback on your lessons?
Working Together
Being part of a British Alpine team delivering events, working with groups and operating in other resorts and countries we need a multitude of talents. Different projects need different skills. As well as being the coach we are often called upon to be the guide, the motivator, the entertainer, the guardian, the restaurant and food guide, the team builder and often the life consultant.
Working together outside of our usual environment enables us to learn from each other. We can see how others solve problems and find solutions. Help others to see how goals outside of a ski instructors remit can be achieved. It gives us a chance to develop our individual skills and usefully use them as part of a team.
Believe
Team training days, working together and social events give us the chance to believe in each other and ourselves, trust each other and ourselves. We have faith in reflective learning, never resting on our loreals, but continually evaluating our performance and how we can improve to give our students, clients and corporate guests the safest and best possible experience in the mountains.
