Well it's been some week weather wise! We have had it all - hot and sunny, rain, snow, cold and clear, blizzards then back to warm and sunny for the last couple of days. No two days have been the same, much more 'British' than 'Alpine' weather. Thursday was the pick of the days, with about 20cm of fresh snow and cold crisp conditions.
The only issue had been the strong northerly wind at altitude, which blew a fair bit of powder off the hill. There was some good powder skiing to be had, specially on the Vallee Blanche Sector. Other parts of the hill also held onto the snow depending on the aspect, the west facing stuff on the La Fee sector was also good to go.
After the rain earlier in the week, which hardened up the pistes up to about 2300m this latest top up is very welcome. The snow conditions above 2500m have been great all week but the highest parts of the ski area haven't always been accessible on the stormier days.
The outlook for the coming week looks changeable again, with plenty of fresh snow on the way. More snow is of course great, but there will be some disruption to the opening of the higher parts of the ski area during any storms - a good time to ski the Vallee Blanche and hide by the fire in the Kanata Restaurant :)
